HS Bawa AwardH S Bawa, the Editor of this News-Portal YesPunjab.com is a journalist who started his journalistic career in the year 1998 and for his contribution to Punjabi Journalism, was awarded Shiromani Punjabi Pattarkar Purskar (Highest Award for Punjabi Journalism) in the year 2009.


He worked for Print Media as a reporter (field journalist), wrote articles, did features, special stories, appeared on television and ventured into TV programme production as a private producer-anchor.


Starting his career as a Punjabi Journalist Bawa chose to switch to English when he ventured into online media with his own initiative i.e. YesPunjab.com


He started with a brief stint in 'Desh Sewak'. Worked with Punjabi Daily AJIT for almost 13 years and served as Bureau Chief (Doaba) with Punjabi Daily Rozana Spokesman for a few months before he conceived and launched YesPunjab.com


Some of his journalistic achievements are as detailed below:


1.     Covered the aftermath of Earthquake which hit Gujarat on 26th of January 2001. Toured the affected parts of Gujarat extensively for a week to deliver 20 exclusive reports which were highly acclaimed.

2.     Went to Hazur Sahib, Nanded for a week in July, 2008 to cover the ongoing preprations for Tricentenary Celebrations of Gurtagaddi of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Went to Gurudwara Guru Nanak Jhira, Bidar also.


3.     Again went to Hazur Saheb, Nanded to cover Tricentenary Celebrations on daily basis. Covered the great event exclusively and ext extensively for eight days.

4.     Again visited Hazur Saheb, Nanded to cover the closing ceremony of Tricentary Celbrations, a year later.

5.     Went to Jammu & Kashmir in April, 2005 to cover the inaugural event of Sri Nagar-Muzaffarabad Bus service between India and Pakistan. Covered the Rally held at Sri Nagar which was addressed by UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.  Also covered the flagging off ceremony. Went to ‘Kamaan Post’ on LOC to give detailed coverage of AMAN SETU and also covered the journey of first bus from Muzafarrabad to Kashmir.


6.     Covered the visit of UK’s prince Charles and his wife Camella Parker at Anandpur Sahib on 28th of March, 2006.


7.     Had the privilege to interview Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in a specially erected Tent House at the place of his Rally at Jalalabad in the District of Gurdaspur on 2nd May 2009.


8.     Interviewed the then Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral more than once and covered his election for Lok Sabha from Jalandhar.


9.     Went to Sangrur and broke the news of a replica of Golden Temple, Amritsar being constructed at Mastuana Sahib near Sangrur. The issue came to limelight and the construction was stopped on the instructions of the SGPC.


10.Covered SAD Conclave (Punjab Vichar Sammelan) organized by SAD at Shimla. The extensive reporting got appreciated.

11.Covered rallies/conferences/conventions of various political parties at Shri Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, Baba Bakala and other places.


12.Covered the inauguration of Thein Dam. Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Chief Guest. Also covered Pathankot and Jalandhar Rallies of Smt. Sonia Gandhi. Covered historical MOGA Rally of SAD.


13.Covered the visit of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.


14.After stepping into Journalism in 1998, covered all the Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, Corporation, Committee, Council, Zila Parishad and Panchayat Elections. Was deputed to cover by-elections of Adampur, Sunam, Majitha, Kapurthala, Ajnala, Beas and Nurmahal.


15.Visited Indo-Pak Border twice on the invitation of BSF. Special reports on life in border villages and especially Village Ghaniye ke Bet were much appreciated.


16.Attended a three day camp organized at Jalandhar Cantt. by Indian Army.


17.Covered much publicized and attended ‘Mela Ghadri Babean da’ and NRI Conventions on regular basis.


18.Special reports on Sikh Affairs, Punjabi, Farmers’ problems etc. have been his forte and the reports have been appreciated and quoted.


19.Went to Delhi on the occasion of 25th anniversary of 1984 Sikh massacre. Remained there for five days and reported the heinous episode by visiting and quoting the affected families.


20.Covered the Tiranga Yatra of Anurag Thakur, the Chief of BJYM. Went to Madhopur for two days and covered it extensively for the benefit of the readers.


21.Went to Hondh Chillar in Haryana, the scene of massacre of Sikhs. Covered the story and also the visit of SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar.


22.As a writer and a columnist he had two much talked about series of articles to his credit. These series titled ‘Gustakhi Muaf’ and ‘Bol mitti dea Baweya’ have been much appreciated.

In recognition of his services and contribution to Punjabi Journalism he was awarded with


SHIROMANI PUNJABI PATTARKAR PURSKAR (Award) by the languages department of Punjab.


He produced a show called 'Kachehri Lokan Di' on DD Punjabi.  It was his private production and featured prominent personalities who were grilled by Bawa himself as an anchor.
