Do you know who the highest tax payer in India is?
The names that immediately crop up in one’s mind are those of Ambani brothers, Tatas, Azim Premji of Infosys and some other top industrialists.
But the fact is that the annual income of these big-wigs comes as dividends from their companies.
And now the big news is that the individual who tops the highest tax payer individuals’ list is Analjit Singh the founder of Max India Group.
He just missed a century. Yeah, he fell short by just 30 lakh bucks. He paid a whopping sum of Rs. 99.7 crore as Income Tax for the last financial year. His group has interests in Health Care, IT and Commercial services.
Not a very close second is Aseem Ghosh the former CEO of Vodafone Essar. He paid Rs. 75.4 crores followed by Ashish Dhawan a Graduate from Harvard Business School and the co-founder cum Managing Director of Chris Capital Investment Advisors, who paid 55 crore.
Vikram Akula paid Rs. 14.2 crore. He is the founder of world’s fastest growing business house SKS Microfinance. Surprisingly it is not into IT or tele-communications, instead it provides small scale enterpreneurial opportunities to women.
And if besides being a film-buff you have off-screen interests too and wish to know who from the Bollywood pays how much to the Income Tax Department, we have some names which top the list.
Last year, Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi, who paid Rs. 18 crores topped the list. The two warring Khans, Amir and Sharukh paid 12 crore each, while the third Khan, Salman paid Rs. 5.5 crore.
Abhishek Bachchan paid 15 lakhs more and stood a step higher than his father Amitabh Bachchan. While the son paid 4.15 crore the father paid Rs. 4 crore. Ranbir Kapoor must have felt lucky to pay Rs. 10 lakh more to get a place higher than none other than Aishwarya Rai. Ranbir paid 2.1 crore while Aishwarya paid 2 crore.
