Tarini Goyal breaks into India's top 50 women chess players club

Chandigarh's star chess player Tarini Goyal added another feather to her cap as she broke into the country’s top 50 active women chess players’ club.

 

According to the FIDE rating list of February 2015, Tarini ranks 44th amongst India’s active women chess players with an international FIDE rating of 2029. At the top is Koneru Humpy with a rating of 2581.

 

A Class VIII student of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, thirteen-year old Tarini, now ranks number three in the country in the U-14 female ( active) players category and her Asia rank in the category is number seven and the world rank is 21.

 

Tarini’s perseverance and hard work started showing results in the national circuit last year as she gained over 150 FIDE rating points by beating or holding to a draw a number of top rated international as well national players.

 

During the year 2014, she lifted the Gold medal in the National Schools Chess Championships in the U-13 Girls category, besides standing fifth in U-13 Girls Nationals Chess Championship, 17th in U-15 Girls Nationals, sixth in U-17 and again 17th in U-19 category.

 

Appreciating her performance during the last year, her coach G B Joshi said that Tarini has now evolved into a mature player and is well poised to reach greater heights in the coming years. She is showing tremendous potential and is sure leave an indelible imprint on the country’s chessboard, he adds.

 

Sister Nisha, Principal, Sacred Heart School, while congratulating Tarini on her performance has promised her complete support from the school.
