Radha Soami sect head Gurinder Singh Dhillon pays obeisance at Golden Temple
Amritsar, September 26 (YP Bureau)
Radha Soami sect head Gurinder Singh Dhillon, Wednesday, quietly and secretively visited Sri Darbar Sahib and paid obeisance at the sanctum-sanctorum.
His visit assumes significance as it is for the first time he has chosen to visit the world-famous sacred shrine of Sikhs ever since he took over as sect head in 1991 and because the Dera had recently courted controversy because of the demolition of Gurdwara Baba Jiwan Singh in village Waraich, which was located in close proximity to the Dera.
The Chief of Dera Baba Jaimal Singh, Beas kept the visit a very personal affair and didn’t bring along his security. He has a ‘Z’ category security. He left his security outside the Golden Temple Complex, it has been learnt.
The sect head remained there in the Golden Temple Complex for about an hour and listened to ‘Gurbani Kirtan’ (Religious hymns) inside the sanctum-sanctorum.
Like an ordinary devotee he did parikarma and accepted ‘parshad’ standing in a queue. He was offered a ‘Siropa’ in the sanctum-sanctorum.
It apparantely looked as if even Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) officials were not aware of the visit of the Dera head.
SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh told media that the SGPC officials were not aware of his visit. “The doors of Harmandir Sahib are open for everyone and anyone can come to pay obeisance”, he said.
Though it is being seen as a positive step on the part of the Dera Chief, reactions and interpretations about his visit are likely to flow in the coming days.Radical Sikh Groups had been opposing the Dera because of the demolition of the Gurdwara and certain other religious differences.
