Punjab to bear expense of bringing victims’ bodies from US : Badal meets bereaved families

Showing deep concern and utmost respect for the sentiments of the members of the bereaved families of the Sikh victims of Oak Creek Gurdwara tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today assured them that the state government would bear the entire expenditure on the transportation of the bodies from US to India for cremation at their native places.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Officer said that Mr. Badal contacted Indian Ambassador in US Ms Nirupama Rao on telephone late last night and apprised her that Punjab government would extend all possible help to the bereaved families of the victims of the deadliest incident. The Chief Minister sought cooperation from the India Embassy in US to facilitate the smooth transportation of the bodies by keeping close liaison with the concerned agencies in the US government.
It may be recalled that Mr. Badal personally visited the residence of two brothers Sita Singh and Ranjit Singh who were killed in Oak Creek Gurdwara shoot out incident, in Tilak Nagar at New Delhi on Monday to express his heartfelt sympathies and grief with the members of the bereaved families.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs.1 lac each for the next of kin of the Sikh victims killed in Oak Creek Gurdwara incident.
