Amritsar, July 13 (YP Bureau)
In a revolutionary decision Akal Takht has said that now on no one will be allowed to build a Gurudwara on his own and a prior clearance shall have to be obtained from Akal Takht for constructing a new Gurudwara in the country.
Announcing another pre-condition Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said, Akal Takht would grant permission to only those Gurudwaras land for which shall be purchased or got transferred in the name of Guru Granth Sahib. “No one shall be allowed to build a Gurudwara on his own”, he said.
“The Takht would not allow the construction of a Gurudwara on ‘Shamlaat’ land (Government Property) and the land in the name of a panchayat, individual, trust or a committee. The land has to be in the name of Guru Granth Sahib, he asserted.
Denouncing the practice of constructing and managing Gurudwaras on caste lines, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that Akal Takht would honour the panchayats of villages with only one common Gurudwara.
"A certificate of appreciation will be awarded to the panchayat having only one Gurudwara “, he said.
The Akal Takht Jathedar suggested that villages already having more than one Gurudwara should restrict the number of Gurudwaras to one or two depending upon the area and population of the village. Vacant Gurudwara buildings could be utilized as Community Centers, he added.
Giani Gurbachan Singh appealed to all the Sikhs to honour the edict issued by Akal Takht in this regard. The edit passed last month would be enforced strictly, he said. He also asked SGPC members and others not to give funds for the construction of caste based Gurudwaras.
