Jalandhar, March 17-
While Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, the convict in former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s murder case, who after being sentenced to death had refused to prefer an appeal and even after receiving his death warrants for 31st of March is adamant not to petition against the orders, an online petition has been created to urge the Government of India to stop his execution.
The petition has been created by Sunny Parmar of Baltimore MD in USA on www.change.org and the signature campaign is on.
The petition was created just a day ago and has been able to garner more than 1300 signatures. The petition addressed to the Government of India and President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil details and pleads the case of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
The petition to ‘Stop the execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana’ is re-produced hereunder for the readers of ‘Yes Punjab’.
‘This petition was created to stop the execution of S. Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was indicted in the murder of Beant Singh (Chief minister, Punjab, India). Beant Singh was widely held responsible by many Sikhs for ordering the kidnap, torture and death of many young, male Sikhs. Being a devout Sikh, S. Rajoana took the pledge to avenge the atrocities committed by Beant Singh on the general Sikh population. This was accomplished on August 31, 1995. As the court verdict states, S. Rajoana is to be hanged till dead on March 31, 2012. He has refused to file a mercy plea because he doesn't want to beg for his life. This petition is hereby being filed on behalf of S Rajoana to review his case and re-analyze the verdict.’
On the above website meant for creating online petitions Sunny Parmar says that Bhai Rajoana has refused to file a mercy plea because he doesn't want to beg for his life. Instead, he requested to be hanged ASAP and requested that his eyes be donated to Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, a blind Raagi (hymn singer) at Sri Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple). He also proposed to donate the rest of his organs to anyone in need.
