Gurmeet-ram-rahimNew Delhi, January 26, 2015 (Yes Punjab News)

Messenger of God (MSG) the controversial film of controversial self-styled dera Sirsa chief Gurmit Ram Rahim has been cleared by Censor Board andf is expected to hit the screens on February 13.

The film which is being opposed by Sikh community apart from some Arya Samaj organisations and other organisations has already been banned in Punjab by the government. The government quarters have claimed that the screening has been suspended and the film has not been banned.

Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal has been reported as saying that the government could review the decision regarding the film.

The film was earlier stalled by the Censors Board.

It may be recalled that the film is being released despite objections to the content regarding glorification of a controversial self-styled godman by certain organisations but the film was also not to the liking of former chairperson and members of the Central Board of Film Certification.

Leela Samson, the chairperson of the CBFC and 9 members had resigned in protest against the government meddling in the affairs of the board. The government had thereafter nominated noted filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani as the chairman of the board.  However, it has been reported in the media that Nihalani is close the dera chief and had attended his programs in the past.

The government of Punjab while deciding to suspend screening of the MSG had cited 'breach of peace and threat to social harmony' as the reason behind the decision.

A formal decision to this effect was taken after the state home affairs department recommended the same in view of a report by Union Home Ministry.

The film is being opposed due to certain dialogues, 'unnecessary' glorification of the dera chief and more particularly the controversial past of Gurmit Ram Raheem.
