Govt to clear pending payments of sugarcane farmers by Jan 15: Sukhjinder Randhawa

Punjab Cooperation and Jails Minister Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Wednesday said that Punjab Government would clear all pending dues of sugarcane farmers in the state by January 15.

 

Starting the new crushing season (2018-19) in Nakodar Co-Operative Sugar Mill, Mr. Randhawa said the government has also decided to set up a co-operative fund worth Rs 300 crore for the farmers so that they do not face any kind of problem in getting the payments for their crop.

 

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Randhawa told that none of the co-operative sugar mills in the state would be shut down instead the government has taken the decision to carry out the modernization process in all co-operative sugar mills and milk plants. He further disclosed that the mills would start preparing other products in the state.

 

He also announced to give Rs 5 crore to Nakodar Sugar Mill and asserted that its capacity would be enhanced from 500 to 3500 Tons of cane crushing per day (TCD).

 

The minister reiterated that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is committed for the welfare of the farmers and the steps taken by him have already yielded results for the entire peasantry.

 

He stated all the co-operative societies are being strengthened by the government in the interest of the farmers. The ministers also met the people and heard their problems.

 

Meanwhile, Shahkot MLA Mr. Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia spoke about the developmental projects worth Rs 225 crore in two years approved by Punjab government for his constituency.

 

Before the start of the season, an 'Akhand Path' was organized in Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha in a sugar mill.

 

On the occasion, Senior Congress Leader Mr. Jagbir Singh Brar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal, SDM Mr. Amit Panchal, GM Sugar Mill Mr. SP Singh and others were present.
