Jalandhar DC flags off second train carrying relief material by Punjab Govt for flood affected Kerala

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today flagged off another bogey carrying about 180 quintals of relief material for the flood affected Kerala from the city Railway station.

 

Flagging off the train Tata Muri Express from platform number two of the city Railway station, the Deputy Commissioner expressed gratitude to the residents of the city who have came forward in large number to extend a helping hand to the people living in the marooned state. He said that even a little thing was of great help for the hapless people of the Kerala who have been adversely affected due to the fury of floods.

 

Mr. Sharma said that the generosity shown by the philanthropists of the city would certainly provide a healing touch to the flood ravaged people of Kerala. He said that on the directions of the state government, the district administration was sending this second train of relief material to Kerala.

 

The Deputy Commissioner said that earlier also the district administration has dispatched a special bogey carrying 180 quintals of the relief material for the flood ravaged Kerala state. Prior to this three C-17 and one IL-76 aircraft of the Indian Air Force has already airlifted more than 1200 quintals of relief material by Punjab government from the Adampur airbase. He said that more than 1500 quintals of relief material has been so far dispatched to Kerala.

 

The Deputy Commissioner said that today’s relief material include 600 pairs of sleepers, medicines, garments, toiletries, stationary, eatable items, candles and match box, blankets, utensils, bed sheets, dry ration, grocery, sanitary pads, school bags, t-shirts and others.    

 

On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Secretary Red Cross Mr. Paramjit Singh and others were also present.
