Hooch Tragedy Toll 17 - Main accused Arrested

The Gurdaspur police have arrested the prime accused, Janak Masih, who had been supplying hooch to the residents of Johal nangal and Balewal villages, where hooch had till now claimed 17 lives.

Meanwhile, the Batala police have arrested 5 liquor smugglers, all resident of village Diwaniwal, where two persons lost their lives due to hooch today.  
Assistant Taxation and Excise Commissioner (AETC), Gurdaspur, P.S.Parmar told that in the last four months, the department had registered 18 cases at village Shampura and recovered 3050 kg lahan, 102660 ml illicit liquor, 262500 ml Alcohol. He further told that on Tuesday morning, a team of Excise Department again raided at Shampura and recovered 3000 liters of Lahan from a pond and later destroyed it.

The deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, Abhinav Trikha told that the administration was working round the clock to meet the situation which has arisen due to the tragedy.
