Jalandhar, March 19 (HS Bawa) Rajnish Kumar Babbi, the Congress rebel from Mukerian, who was elected in the recently concluded Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections as an Independent, may join Bharitya Janta Party anytime.
Sources claim that Babbi, the son of former finance minister Dr. Kewal Krishan is in touch with BJP leadership and had a series of meetings with them. He reportedly wants an assurance from the BJP top brass that he will be the official candidate of the party in the next Vidhan Sabha elections and shall be inducted as a chief parliamentary secretary from BJP quota.
Rajnish Babbi defeated former minister Arunesh Shakar of the BJP by a margin of more than twelve thousand votes while the official Congress Candidate Ajit Kumar Narang fared a poor third. Arunesh Shakar and local BJP leaders are as such opposed to the entry of Babbi in the party fold.
Babbi, it is said was interested to join SAD but could not make it due to opposition from some Akali leaders of the constituency. Babbi is reported to have said that he will take any decision in interest of the people of his constituency.
