Suresh Arora assumes charge as Punjab DGP

Mr. Suresh Arora, IPS today assumed the charge as Director General of Police of Punjab.

Immediately after assuming the charge, Mr. Arora held an informal meeting with the senior officers from the various Wings of the State police to review the police preparedness for General elections to Lok Sabha-2014.  

A much celebrated and upright officer Mr. Suresh Arora  belongs to 1982 batch of Indian Police Service.

He was till now the DGP-cum-chief Director of Vigilance Bureau, Punjab.

He was yesterday appointed as DGP in place of Mr. Sumedh Singh Saini after clearance of his name from a panel of three senior IPS officers from the state.

The Election Commission of India had Thursday approved the leave of Punjab DGP Mr. Sumedh Singh Saini who had asked for leave from April 4 to May 20.

It has been alleged that Mr. Saini opted to proceed on leave after learning that Election Commission might act against him on the basis of complaints filed by Punjab Congress.
