Veteran Communist leader Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri passes away

Jagjit-S-Lyallpuri-JalJalandhar, May 28 (YP Bureau)

Veteran Communist leader and a senior trustee of Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Committe passed away Monday night.

97 years old Lyallpuri who was not maintaining good health for quite some time.  He is survived by three sons. 

Comrade Lyallpuri had started taking active part in the struggle for independence during his student life.

After acquiring his degree in law from Lahore he joined the struggle under the banner of Communist Party and fought extensively for the rights of farmers and labourers.
He was among those leaders who vehemently opposed and led the struggle against 'Khush-hasiyati tax' imposed by government of Punjab after independence.

He was acknowledged as a national leader who struggled for farmers' rights under the Communist banner. Even during last years of his life he kept himself engaged in working for the rights of the labourers and the farmers.

The members of Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Committee, met immediately after the news of his death broke and held a condolence meeting in which his contribution to 'Kirti Lehar' was remembered.  He was paid rich tributes by all the members.

Those who attended the condolence meeting include Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee president Darbara Singh Dhillon, vice president Comrade Naunihal Singh, General Secretary Dr. Raghbir Kaur, Treasurer Comrade Raghbir Singh Chhina, Senior Trusteee Comrade Gandharv Sen Kocchar, Comrade Surinder Kumari Kocchar, Trustee Comrade Mangat Ram Pasla, Comrade Gurmeet, Comrade Amolak Singh, Senior Trustee Comrade Chain Singh Chain,  Comrade Charanjee Lal, Comrade Sham Lal and others.
