Five injured as SOI members clash at Adesh Polytechnic campus

Faridkot, April 25 (YP Bureau)
A number of students were injured, five of them seriously, when a clash broke out at Adesh Polytechnic campus near village Machaki over the post of president of Students Organization of India (SOI).

SOI, the brainchild of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, is the students’ wing of Shiromani Akali Dal. The wing has a large number of students as its members and with SAD bouncing back to power again, has emerged as a much more politically important student organization.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon when two groups of students roaming at the campus in vehicles armed with swords and guns for around 20 minutes clashed.

Sources revealed that one group had put up posters announcing a president of the unit. However another group tore up the posters and named their own president which resulted into a clash. A police team led by Sub-Inspector Rachhpal Singh had to act tough to bring the situation under control.

Those injured include Harpreet Singh, Manjit Singh, Rupinder Singh, Jagtar Singh and Jaspal Singh. The injured have been admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital.

Faridkot SSP Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that the police is in the process of recording the statements of the injured students. ‘We will identify each and every boy involved in this clash and those involved will be arrested’, he said.
