Punjab State Inter-University Heritage Youth Festival begins at SN College

The Two Day Punjab State Inter-University Heritage Youth Festival today begins at Sikh National College with great enthusiasm and traditional fanfare.


Being organized in association with Punjabi Art Council, the festival was inaugurated by Punjab Cultural Affairs Minister Mr Sohan Singh Thandal and Col.(Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, College Managing Committee, presided over the colourful inaugural function.


Mr. Thandal said that the Punjab Government is committed to preserve and flourish rich cultural, historical and religious heritage of Punjab. He called upon the youth of Punjab to adopt Punjabi language as well as various distinctive traditions and symbols of Punjabi culture.


Mr. Thandal lauded the efforts of Punjab Art Council and other organizations  in promoting the various forms of Punjabi art. He also admired the initiative taken by the Management Committee, Principal and staff of Sikh National College to organize this mega cultural pageant in which all the universities of the State are participating.


While welcoming the Chief Guest, the other dignitaries and the participants Punjab Art Council Chairperson Ms. Harjinder Kaur, General Secretary Prof. Nirmal Dutt and College Principal Dr. Dharmjit Singh pledged to put in persistent efforts to promote Punjabi language, culture and art.


The highlights of the first day of the festival are various forms of Punjabi folk dance such as Giddha, Jhumar, Luddi and Malwai Giddha. Apart from these lively presentations the competitions of traditional Punjabi folk singing-Var, Kali and Kavishre- were also conducted.


The competitions of folk songs, folk orchestra, folk instrument, one act play, mimicry, histrionics and Bhangra would be held tomorrow.
